Newly Insured – For the First Time

When Joan Gordon, 49, chose a health plan for her family on the exchange, it is the first time her family has ever had health insurance. “We’ve always paid cash for our medical visits. And I know we don’t get care as good as we will now that we have insurance,” says a relieved Joan. “I feel peace like I’ve never felt before.”

Joan received a subsidy that allowed her to purchase a silver plan. “It’ reasonable, less than $60 a month. The navigator I worked with was very sweet. She told me that they don’t keep any records of the personal information I provided to get the policy. And I believe her.”

“I tried once before to get insurance, but with two kids in college, we just couldn’t afford the monthly premiums. All people are equal and should be able to see a doctor,” concludes Joan.
